So, here you are… sitting and suffering from the writer’s block, terrified at the very thought of your future depending on the resume you are going to write. You have read the samples; you have even considered the idea of ordering them online. But you are still uncertain about what to start with.
Start with reading our tips and you are sure to succeed:
- Your resume is a matter of self-promotion. So, never provide untrue information, however, consider carefully what to include and what to leave out (remember that you do not have to reveal every single detail of your life).
- In order to write a good resume, spend some time and find the answer to the question: “How will I benefit from this job and how will the job benefit from me?” and keep your answer in mind describing your skills and working experience.
- Identify, formulate your job objective in a brief and concise way and necessarily include it into your resume, as it will prove that you have a clear vision of your future career.
- If you cannot decide on one job objective and are applying for several different positions, write a specific resume for every job offer, as it will produce a much better impression than a generalized one.
- Choose the style appropriate for situation: use functional style if you are applying for a job not within your current professional sphere and your previous experience may be of minor importance if compared to your skills, you have changed professional spheres several times so far, your work experience profile doesn’t look very impressive or you are applying for a job, which involves a lot of creativity. In all the other cases, the chronological format is more appropriate.
